The Department of Geomatics Engineering is a research leader in many areas. Currently, the department has four specialized areas of research: GIS and Land Tenure; Earth Observation; Positioning, Navigation and Wireless Location; and Digital Imaging. The department has achieved worldwide excellence at the graduate level and in research. It is the largest geomatics department of its kind in Canada. Many of our faculty members are known nationally and internationally for their research programs, and its graduate students are winning international awards on a regular basis for the excellence of their work. Whether it’s creating better sensors and global positioning systems or using geospatial technologies such as GIS, and LIDAR to support improved environmental monitoring, researchers are developing remarkable technologies with a wide range of applications.
