Despite school being over, the summer presented another opportunity for me to develop my GIS career and get a taste of how GIS is used outside the classroom. I worked alongside a skilled team of GIS professionals at the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs as a GIS analyst for their environmental management branch.
Reflecting over my summer work experience, I have gained an immense appreciation for the quality of education I have received by instructors and educators in McMasters GIS department. In nearly every aspect of my job, from multi criteria decision analysis, to automation of GIS workflows with python, I felt that the courses and training I had received here at Mac had not only provided me the foundational skills essential to conducting these tasks, but also the confidence to approach these complex problems with a analytical mindset.
