Walking and Shuttle Map

This summer I have has the privilege of working as a GIS Assistant for the City of Ottawa, assisting their GeoSolutions team with cartographic creation as well as assisting the various engineering and forestry departments in using Esri technology.

My first project has been to create a digitized walking and shuttle map for the different Doors Open Ottawa locations for 2025. This allows residents and tourists alike to easily discover which monuments and buildings are open to visit on the walking path, as well as look at the bus stops for accessing the more distant open houses. This project serves the community, creating accessible opportunities for everyone to visit all that Ottawa has to offer!

I started the project using address data and descriptive information in an excel file. Using this, I was able to digitize each of the points using ArcGIS Online (AGOL). Then, using said points, I was able to create the route between stops. I imported a layer with all municipal roads and was able to snap the appropriate segments to my map of the shuttle and walking stops. This final product was then uploaded to the city website in time for the Doors Open event!

Below I have shared some images from the ArcGIS Online process as well as the website for the final map product!
