A Little About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Anjali Khan, and I am a fourth-year Geospatial Data Science (GIS) major and Computer Science specialist at the University of Toronto’s Mississauga campus. I never planned on being in GIS, I actually took my first course as a backup option, but somewhere between learning basic cartography to exploring spatiotemporal databases, I found myself naturally drawn to it. I realized how naturally it aligned with my interest in building systems, designing interfaces, and applying computer science in practical, creative ways. The more I learned about the field, the more I understood that GIS is both technical and design-oriented, a space where coding, workflows, and user experience come together.
What motivates me most in GIS is the opportunity to build tools and systems that make spatial work more intuitive and efficient. I enjoy designing workflow pipelines, structuring spatial databases, and thinking critically about how users interact with geospatial applications. Through my experience as a GIS Analyst, I have worked across many aspects of the spatial data pipeline, from data preparation and map production to automation and interface development. These experiences have strengthened my interest in creating solutions that are both technically sound and intuitive to use.
As I continue to grow in this field, I am excited to explore more of Esri’s tools and software, especially those that support custom workflows, application design, and user-centered interfaces. I am eager to learn how different components of the Esri ecosystem can be integrated and further understand how they interact with one another to create flexible and efficient solutions. This aligns closely with my interest in building systems that support real spatial work and improve the way people interact with geospatial technology.
I am excited to be part of the ECCE program, and I look forward to learning from others, experimenting with new tools, and contributing to a community that values creativity and technical skill. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be involved and I welcome the chance to connect with others in the community and learn from their experiences and perspectives.
